The other side of the same war memorial tells an entirely different story through the sculpture.
Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin

Students literally enter this moving "Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe"in Berlin. This memorial as well as the apartments in the background are built on the location of the Nazi Reichschancellery from which Hitler ruled Europe during WWII.

4th of July in Berlin

In the background of this same memorial are the German Bundestag and the United States Embassy on the 4th of July 2011!

Students and Statue Representing German Resistance to the Nazis
These students study a bronze statue in Berlin representing Claus von Stauffenberg and the Resistance Movement Against the Nazis. Von Stauffenberg planted the bomb used to try to assisinate Hitler in the 20 July 1944 plot to overthrow the Nazis.

This memorial near the statue is located in the Bendler Block of the German Army Administration Offices in Berlin. It hangs on the wall in front of which Von Stauffenberg and 4 other conspirators were shot on 20 July 1944 when the bomb designed to kill Hitler only wounded him earlier that same day.

The students are heading for our final group dinner in Brauhaus Mitte in Berlin the night before they left Europe for home.

Great German Food Enjoyed by the Students

The students enjoyed some great German food and good conversation on their last evening in Europe on their study abroad. Toasts were offered by many and thanks given to all for such a great program again this year!
